Olympic Opening Ceremonies

 

Today is a BIG day in our house - the 2012 Summer Olympics begin! We love watching the Olympics, and we have a fun tradition for the Opening Ceremonies - for dinner that evening, we always eat "Food of the Hosting Country" while we watch the coverage. Italy and China were easy, but when the 2010 Games (Vancouver) arrived, I struggled because they eat basically the same things we in America eat. We finally decided to simplify (and cheat a bit) by doing Canadian Bacon pizza. A few months before the Olympics started, I happened to sit next to a Canadian couple during a flight and I quizzed them about "traditional Canadian foods". They humored me and finally remembered a great pastry Canadians enjoy: Beaver Tails (flat cinnamon and sugar pastries). I happened to come across something quite similar to what they described in our local market, which thrilled me! I documented our little party in my layout today. 

I used an assortment of Ormolu goodies from several different lines, and they coordinated beautifully (as usual). The menu is written on a tag, and I used a Bungalow flapper at the top before tucking it behind the top photo on the layout. The GO! Dots & Spots globe was perfect for the layout so I incorporated it as part of the title. 

My twelve year-old has been eagerly anticipating these Summer Games because they are in London! And London = Fish & Chips in his mind. So, we are going to be feasting on Fish & Chips, Bass Beer (root beer for the kids), Eton Mess (meringue / strawberries / whipped cream dessert), and tea and biscuits tonight. Just for the heads up (so you can plan ahead): the 2014 Winter Games will be in Sochi (Armenian Cuisine), and the 2016 Summer games will be in Rio (Carnivale, anyone?)! 

Today is also a bittersweet one for me, as this is my final post on the Ormolu blog. I have been on the Creative Team for more than a year now, and I will miss it immensely! Ormolu is an amazing company and Kaitlin is a joy to work with. I have also enjoyed getting to know my fellow team members - they are all incredible women. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Oromolu - I'm sure it will be fabulous!

good time

I love spending time with my family... with 3 kids, sometimes it's hectic.  It's always nice to spend some one on one time with the kids, even if it's just a little while.  On Mother's Day weekend this year, we spent a day together with my family at a park, where my parents & one of my sisters were camping.  We had already decided to walk a 5k together & happily, my sons {then 9 & 12} decided to join in.  I really love the feeling of having them with me, where we're free to talk about anything they want, without little sister interruptions.  We walked, we ran, we raced each other & had lots of laughs.  It will be a day I cherish for a long time.  After we were done, we headed down to the beach to soak in the water.  My husband snapped this photo of my youngest son, Evan & I.

I used the Bungalow Good Time Little label stacked with washi tape, patterned paper & the arrow from the Tag Sale Fabric tag sheet to the left of the photo. Under the photo is the large portion of the Bungalow We Stick together little label sheet &  then I stitched everything together messily, extending in & around the photograph. I also added the Noted piece of the Tag Sale little labels up in the top left corner, stitched with tape & patterned paper again & stamped it with my date stamp to remember.

Speaking of a Good Time, this is my last post for my stint on the Ormolu team... it's been a wonderful experience & I've met so many talented individuals while having a great time working with awesome stuff. Thank you, Kaitlin for letting me be part of it!

 

 

Love to See You Smile

Hi, Guys!  Happy Monday!  My layout today uses Fact or Fiction Flappers (Man!  I love those flappers.  Every collection!), Fact or Fiction Flair and Dots and Spots and Tag Sale Flair.  I used it with Crate Paper's Little Boy Blue collection.... Again!  But just with little touches of pattern paper.  The colors of Fact or Fiction went so well with this photo I took of my middlest at his birthday party.  

 The photo is totally blurry, but it captured the moment.  I had to use it!  We had the boys' birthday party at a jump house in town.  Noah was sliding down the giant slide.  He was obviously having a great time.  When he got to the bottom of the slide, he looked over at me & just smiled.  It was pure joy.  He was so happy and having a blast with his friends.  It made every minute of planning and crafting for the party worth it!  

I wanted to use the flapper that said "so you", but it just didn't quite fit.  So, I trimmed it down and layered it over the others.  

I have been hoarding this flair.  I've almost used it on every Ormolu layout.  I finally sucumbed and used it!

Happy Independence Day America! This time of the year is always seems crazy for us, we're just finishing up our 2-3 times a week baseball games, our middle kid has his birthday the last day of June, which includes birthday parties & special stuff for him.  Then, my husband & I celebrate our anniversary just 2 days later.  Sometimes it seems the holiday gets lost in the shuffle.  Either that or we're just too tired to keep up with it all! Regardless, it is an important day to celebrate here in the U.S. & to once again thank those who fight for our independence every day. 

Ok, so I might have gotten off blog subject.  Speaking of baseball, birthdays & our middle kid...

he turned 10 on Saturday...

I created this layout with a mish mash of Ormolu goodies to put some random thoughts about him right now {& as you can see, most everything centers around his favorite sport}.  He is in LOVE with all things baseball.  I am in love with him, his determination & this photo I caught of him before one of his games last month, waiting for his catcher & getting ready to pitch. 

I started with Here & Now Bungalow snapshot, cutting off the word part & then cutting the frame part into a corner for the photo.

For the 10 I used a letter sticker & added the Bungalow YOU flair for the 0. 

For the journaling, I found lots of labels in both the Bungalow & Tag Sale lines to use, as well as using the Bungalow dots & spots & a Tag Sale Flair.  Under most everything went layered washi tape. I finished at the bottom with the ruler {that went to 10... perfect!} on the Tag Sale Fabric Tag sheet.  I then stitched everything into place!

Day at the Lake

Hi!  Mandie here bringing you today's post. 

I made this layout about the time we spent on the lake for my husband's birthday this weekend.  It uses items from the fact or fiction collection, tag sale & bungalow.  The pattern paper is from Crate Paper's new baby line, Little Boy Blue & October Afternoon's 9 to 5. 

I layered the tags from Tag Sale with a Fact or Fiction Negative Cut card and a liitle tag from Bungalow.  I LOVE the font used in the Bungalow line.  So, so cute!

(oh!  How I LOVE this piece of flair!  I could use 12 of them!)

Is there anyone that likes the physical act of moving? I am someone who loves change but I think I forgot how "fun" moving is. We recently sold our home and are in the process of moving. Boxes and boxes and boxes - everywhere! I am kind of excited to re-organize my scrap space though! To get a break from all the craziness I decided to document our old home with a scrapbook page.

The new Bungalow  and Tag Sale lines are PERFECT for this page! I love all the Ormolu tags because I can layer without having to use many more products (which means less mess which my husband was happy about with everything else laying around the house right now).

Anyone else sharing the joy in moving right now? I don't know how Christa moved across the world. You're my hero!

using enlargements

 

Sometimes when I'm editing photos, I see one that really pops out at me, and I know instantly that I want to use it BIG on a layout. I took this photo of my son fishing last summer during a camping trip, and I knew that if I cropped it down to a smaller size, it would lose the impact I wanted it to have. I really wanted to preserve the calm, quiet and vast feel of the image, and decided to print it out to 8.5x11 on my home printer after converting it to black and white. It helps if you have an image with some white space if you're going to be adding directly onto your photo. The bold summer subway wording pattern paper strip I used was perfect for my theme, but I wanted to keep the rest of my embellishments minimal so as not to compete too much with that. I sprayed one of the Kraft tags with some yellow mist, cut it down a bit, and ran it through my printer. I added a tag sale tag, stamped with a little title, and then layered a custom flair with my son's initial on top. By keeping my embellishments to a minimum, I think the photo really stands on it's own, and I love how this turned out. I encourage everyone to try scrapping with an enlargement, it's really addictive. :)

Real Deal

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be posting on the Ormolu blog. I LOVE everything Ormolu because each and every one works so well with the layering that I do so often. They are the easiest most perfect accents to add in here and there and go with pretty much any style I'm going with at the moment.

We just got back from Kauai (I'm still in post vacation depression mode) so as you can imagine I have TONS of photos just waiting to scrap. I think it's pretty funny that the first two I grabbed were of our favorite dessert on the island - Jo Jo's Shave Ice. 

I'm craving one right now. My favorite has coconut shave ice over macadamia nut ice cream with coconut cream and shredded coconut. SO good! I think my favorite new Ormolu products for this page were the Tag Sale Fabric Cuts. I love the added texture they give the page without being too much.

Do you love to layer as much as I do? I just can't help myself!

Wedding Gift

 

Wedding season is upon us! I know two lovely couples who are in the midst of wedding planning at the moment so I decided I'd better get started on creating a few handmade gifts before hand. Although, I like this one so much that I may be tempted to keep it for myself. 

Once again, I used the Tag Sale Tags. I LOVE those things. I'm sure you can since I think I've used them in every project since they were released. They are just so versatile! I also used Ormolu's brown/white Bakers Twine, as well as a flair button and a flapper, both from the Bungalow collection. I added a rubon to the flair button, as you can see in this close-up.

I hope you are enjoying your summer, and that you are able to fit in a little "creating" time, as well.

U & Me

Well, I am excited! This is my first post for Ormolu (and my first post using TypePad) and I am a little nervous, I hope I am do it right. :) Today I wanted to share a layout with you using the Bungalow Snapshots. Seems that the Creative Team is definately loving on them for the assigments recently, me included. But who can blame us, they are pretty amazing.

So on to the layout:

This was a photo of my husband and I last year during our daughters birthday. I have been meaning to scrap this photo and this provided the perfect oppertunity. I thought "We Stick Together" was a perfect caption to describe us.
