Hello, everyone!! Jen Kinkade with you today bringing you some happy and bright colors!

Once again, I knew I wanted to feature a cut file and decided on some elements from the Made Digital Die cuts.

When I determined what direction I was going in I incorporated some watercolors and the popular ombre trend.

One thing led to another and I was having a blast playing with it all :)

 

As you can see, I used a bit of everything Ormolu has to offer...tags, flair, stamps and cut files!!

 

I hope you are inspired to create and have fun playing with some Ormolu!

Saying Happy Birthday

My sweetie is turning 31 tomorrow, so I thought I'd put together a birthday card for him. 31 is one of those odd birthdays that no one really makes a big deal out of, but I feel that every birthday is a reason for crafting ;)

I started with a kraft base, a few old supplies (how about that Love, Elsie line?!?!), Ormolu 2-Day Hooray Number Flair Buttons and Fact or Fiction Dots n' Spots.

I added a scrap piece of scalloped paper, whose origin I can't seem to remember, a few pieces of chipboard, a realllly old American Crafts "Celebrate" rub on, and stitched it all together, rounded the corners and viola --- done until next year!

Here's hoping he'll like his card, the key lime pie he requested and the presents I got him. If nothing else, I got to use up some of my very, very old supplies (and some great Ormolu ones, too!)

Project Life: Getting Ready

I'm pretty bad at long, drawn out projects, like December Dailies, 365 photos, and other popular projects. I have a difficult time setting aside time every day, week or month for documentation. That's why it's March 6th and I have yet to finish my second page of Project Life.

Part of me is disappointed, bummed that most people are on week eight and I've barely stuck my toe into the water. Then I stop and realize that it's not my style to craft every day, or get a project done simply to check it off my list. For me, these projects are how I feel about scrapbooking in general---quality, not quantity.

So this post isn't about my fifth, sixth or seventh week into Project Life, it's about my beginning.

I hoarded the silhouette tag from the Vignette line, and used it on my cover page:

And I'm sprinkling in a few Fact or Fiction Flappers, and Fact or Fiction Dots n' Spots:

And I think this is a great opportunity to throw in a few Fact or Fiction Flair Buttons:

And I'm fully planning on using a few Fact or Fiction Storytellers from the digital downloads section of the shop. This will make it easier to have a cohesive look and be able to print off as many tags as I want.

So don't get discouraged when it comes to project timelines. Take it easy and enjoy the process!

Custom Flair

I have to tell you that I have had some custom flair sitting in my Ormolu bin for a while now.  Let's be honest, I've been hoarding it.  I love this flair and should probably get more for my hoarding drawer.  I love the fact that Kaitlin gives the option of not only letters, phrases and images, but also the option of 16 colors too.  So for this layout I busted out the "E" for miss Ella and I'm so glad I broke down and finally used it!

I just love that blue color and it was perfect for these swimming photos with all the blue water and suit!  I simply layered it on top of a Fact or Fiction Dots N Spots, then again on a chipboard ribbon, which again was perfect for the theme of the layout!

I dug into my Fact or Fiction Swatches too and experimented a bit with some rub ons.  They went on like butter I tell you!  I thought there might be some issues with it fully sticking to fabric, but it was not a problem at all!  Love how it turned out in the end!

So I encourage you to dig into those custom flair buttons and use them on your next project!  They are absolutely perfect for layouts and cards too.  If you haven't ordered any you must head on over and grab some up!  They are amazing!

Scrapping Outside Your Comfort Zone

I tend to scrap the same colors over and over again. Blacks, greys, greens, blues, teals, oranges and yellows.

For this layout, I decided to take some inspirationfrom this photo and the Ormolu Vignette Dots n' Spots and go with a sherbert/brown color scheme.

I used lots of layering with this one, making flags out of stickers, adding on wooden buttons, cork and using foam dots for dimension.

 

I love how the simple tag brought me full-circle (pun intended!) with this layout. I simply needed to step outside of what I normally do!

Hope this inspires you to try something new on your layouts!

An Un-Valentine Valentine

Still on a card kick here---this time around, with a bit of a challenge. I dare you to get out your scraps and make an un-Valentine's Valentine. Stray away from the typical pinks and reds of the season and try a new color combo.

Here's the card I made with a red, yellow and grey theme, using the Line & Letter Mix Tags and the Fact or Fiction Flappers :

 

I feel like it's still romantic without being Valentine-themed.

Color Challenge | What's Black and White and Red all over?!

Happy Friday everyone!  Who doesn't love a Friday?  So in honor of our love for Friday, I thought I'd share a "lovely" little color challenge with you! Use black, white, and red (and maybe some kraft thrown in there for good measure!) to create a project! I've been swooning over all the elements in the new Fact or Fiction line, and I used a number of them to make this simple card for someone special who has been having a bad week. :)  I can't wait to see what you come up with! Color Challenge | Fall Colors

Hi everyone! Emily here with a quick and easy color challenge for you!  If you live in the Midwest like I do you are most likely surrounded by the beauty of the fall leaves changing colors.  I sing a song with my students at school (I'm a music teacher) with the words "The leaves are falling down. Red, orange, yellow, brown..."  So today I challenge you to create something using those fall colors!  Here is a quick card I made using some fall colors!

Creative Team | Color: blue and orange

These colors speak summer to me. The bright blue feels like water. The orange and yellow is so vivid I almost have a sunburn...(or maybe I do have a sunburn). White reminds me of wearing those white shoes out until Labor Day. The kraft is almost reminiscent of the sand. It's a fun and easy going color scheme that can be used in so many ways and is sure to brighten a day.

Doesn't this photo Melanie took of her son just speak summer? Love how she used the Calendar Tag to show the month the photo was taken and the little pops of color are perfect on the kraft background. 

* I am working on new calendar tags for next year so these are all gone but stay tuned for more!

Space Invaders by Amanda Probst

Just an overdue layout about a class my boys took at the local science museum years ago. ;) I loved using the scallop tags as a partial border, popped up on foam dots because I love the dimension that gives. Also, I was thrilled to find the lightbulb "dot" in the Vignette set, as it was perfect for this layout (my boys love playing with the lightbulb exhibits at this particular museum). I added a bit of Glossy Accents over the lightbulb part to make it pop a bit more (hard to tell in the photos, sorry!). The "August" calendar tag was printed out on cardstock (I was very happy to discover that the August tag colors coordinated so nicely with my layout) and I just added the exact date with a black pen. 

How cool is the glossy accents on the lightbulb? Genius!

Using the circle tags made this layout super quick to put together. I love that the Vignette collection has two color stories in it, so when I was done with the layout, I used the teal/green plus the same design concept to make a quick card!
