Being an interior design graduate, when I first found out I was pregnant I immediately dreamed of decorating baby rooms. I had no problem coming up with ideas for a girl room. I mean, first I am a girl- I have all sisters and I have a little girl. Girls are easy for me. Boys...not so much. So when I found out I was having a boy I was at a loss for what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to incorporate robots (since Justin works in robotics I thought that would be cool). What I did not want was an overly themed little boy room. I also wanted to use a lot of what I already owned to decorate.
My first problem was bedding. All little boy bedding is themed it seems. Cars, sports or animals are your choices. I did not want any of the above. If anything I wanted it to be rather simple and basic yet still fit in with what I was doing. I found this bedding set at the Land of Nod and although it is way more than I wanted to pay for baby bedding I went for it. I have no regrets on the bedding as I know now I spent little to nothing for the remainder of the room and the bedding was my splurge. Plus it is super soft.
We had already painted the room grey when we first moved in because it had an ugly wallpaper on it and we had to do something after removing it all. I went ahead and sketched out the yellow paint lines using a level and Justin painted it all in for me. I had planned on using the arrows and doing something over his crib prior to painting and just wanted a way to 'frame' it all. The arrows are a find from years ago from an antique store. The chalkboard is also an antique store find (although it will be taken out of here once he is older because I don't want it ruined).
Side note: I realize there is a debate on using crib bumpers now -which I was unaware of since my last child is nine. Jude is still sleeping in his bassinet in our room which is why I have the bumpers still on the crib. When he moves into the crib I will remove them...just have not gotten to that point yet.
I still have a lot of stuff on the floor that doesn't necessarily belong there (exersaucers). But just imagine it clean. I looked all over for curtains for his room and am still not happy with them. They seemed more bright red in the store. I might use these to replace his closet door and find some I like better.
Here's a better photo of the robots above his crib. For the robots I purchased some inexpensive frames at Target and used designs from my Silhouette to cut out the robots. I did need to tweak them a tad to get the body removed from the image.
Corner decor. I had these shelves already- along with the photo wire frame which is holding baby photos of Justin, Reiley and I. I still need to add Jude's photo. The larger orange frame is some word art I designed. with a quote from the Beatles, "I get by with a little help from my friends". This is where the 'Hey Jude' Beatles theme also kinda gets introduced into the room. Next to that frame is a little stuffed robot my aunt made for him (which goes along with the mobile she also made for him). The robot painting on canvas is from his sister Reiley and completes it quite nicely :)
It is inevitable with the name Jude that there is some reference to the song that comes up in conversation. I chose to embrace this and wrote the song on the wall behind his door using a paint marker. It is not really noticeable at all until you are inside the room and shut the door so it is difficult to get a photo of. I just made light lines on the wall and took a white paint pen and wrote. It only took a few minutes but I had to gear up for it for days.
Paper robot mobile. I received this, along with many other robot themed gifts, from my aunt who (although she denies it) is very clever and crafty. I actually got this in the mail and when I opened up the box to find all of these paper robots I had a huge smile on my face. It was so cool to open up a box and see all these guys floating around inside. I hung this over his changing table and he stares at it each time he is over there...which is many times during the day at this point ;)
