Hi again! For this week's Tip/Technique Tuesday, I'm sharing with you my Week in My Life album.
No big, flashy techniques, though...just a list of tips to help in making your own mini album:
Wait for it. Pick a week that works for you. I didn't make mine back when the rest of the creative team did, as I wanted to wait for a more "typical" week in my life...during the school year, rather than during the summer.
Plan it simply. Knowing that I'd be using an album with business card holder pages (found on clearance at Target, lol), I figured out how many business card slots would be allotted to each day and knew I'd be essentially making a bunch of business card sized "pages."
Make what you can ahead of time. Figuring that I'd have a much higher likelihood of actually completing this project if I made it easier/more doable, I made up the date pages ahead of time. (I added the button embellishments and fabric swatches over the page protectors after I'd inserted these pages.)
Keep a running file. To manage the story, I simply created a Word document and added to it each day, keeping in mind the business card sized pages I knew I'd be wanting. I kept it simple and used the same categories for each day (what I ate, what I did, homeschooling and exercise). In the end, I worked it all up in Adobe InDesign (formatting the blurbs into business card sized pages and adjusting the fonts as needed), printed it out, and trimmed to size. (You could easily do this in Word also. I didn't get fancy and printed everything on kraft...am just more comfortable in InDesign.)
Combine photos for printing. Since I was working with business card size page protectors, I opted to keep it simple and just fill entire slots with single photos. Business cards are 2 x 3.5" so I was able to fit three photos on a standard 4 x 6" print. (Just added them together in Adobe PhotoShop before sending them to be printed as 4 x 6" photos.) Oh. And I used the same action treatment on all of my photos (specifically, Pioneer Woman's "Seventies")...one, because I like it, lol...and, two, because it helped the vastly different colors mesh better. :)
Put it together. Once I had all the pieces, (and I threw in a few memorabilia pieces like business cards, clothing tags and receipts) I just assembly-lined it...laid out the components for each day, tweaked a few of the "pages" with outlining or bits of cardstock or Ormolu tags (primarily those areas that ended up without as much text), and slid them in. Done. :)
So. If you've been putting off making a Week in the Life album of your own, rest assured that it *is* doable and doesn't need to be a huge production. If I can do it, so can you! ;)
