I'm teaching tonight at my local scrapbooking store and thankfully I am already to go for it.
I thought I would share some of those layouts since...I don't get to share too many of my own layouts (because I never get time to scrapbook for myself!). The photos of the layouts themselves are not too awesome...sorry.
These layouts look so much better in real life- I really need a better method for showing layouts online.
The tough thing about teaching classes (and design team also for me) is that I am not using photos to put layouts together. Typically, when I create my own pages I am designing the page based upon the photo I have (either in hand or on screen). When you design for classes (or store samples), I have noticed, the pages need to look interesting and pleasing to the eye without the photos. Which means sometimes I end up using extra embellishment on a page that I would not normally need if I was using photos.
I also don't like placing titles on pages. I only used a title on one of the pages here. This is mainly because I don't know what type of stories class attendees are going to need or want to tell. I try to put some words (either with quotes or embellishments) on the page so that they have a direction, but they can always change the quotes around or stamping. I like to think they have an option of going home and adding a few letter stickers to complete the layout with a title when they are ready to use their photos.
I did have fun trying out some alcohol inks. I have never really gotten into any of those things before and it is nice to be able to change up some embellishments I have already on hand or try out some new techniques. Reiley has really enjoyed trying some of these techniques also, and I hope we get some time to play around with inks this weekend.
Reiley has done an awesome job keeping up with her reading this summer. At the beginning of the summer she was given a reading log by her teacher for next year and she has carried it around with her all summer long. We hit the library a few times to get some new material- and she takes a book with her each time we get into the car. She refuses to go to bed until she gets in her reading time. I am quite proud as I am not much of a reader. However, I do love Harry Potter so I reread the Half-Blood Prince before going to see the movie. After seeing the movie, I decided to reread the Deathly Hallows. Which is the most reading I have done since...high school. I actually was lucky enough in college to pick a major that did not require much reading.
We also went to Apple Camp twice these last two weeks. Which is an hour drive for us- but it gave us something fun to do for the morning. Reiley learned how to make her own song on Garageband and make her own movie on iMovie. I am hoping she teaches me some of what she learned. She liked the movie one best and each group used a new iPhone to record their own movie for the camp. Very cool.
Justin left for a week (luckily only a week as it was supposed to be two) while Reiley and I held up fort. Which was quite an experience. The day before he left our AC went out. Day one, my car started acting up. Day two, we had to remove a yellow jacket nest from our dryer vent outside so we could water the lawn and garden (as the hose is right beside it). Boston and I got stung by it's residents. Day three, I came home to a bunch of flying ants downstairs.
I do not like insects.
After that it got better because on day four we found out he was coming back on day five! I do not like being the authority on home and car repair and insects.
July special is up (a little late I know). Choose 3 sets of packaging tags for $10. This special will be up throughout July or maybe later... until I figure out what the special for August will be.
I took a little longer figuring out this special mainly because this week I started running out of product. I knew I was a little low on some items but did not realize how quickly I would run out until Ali's giveaway a couple Saturdays ago. So, I quickly reordered everything but still have some orders in limbo waiting for some tags to be ready for pick up. Crossing my fingers that happens today...
Reiley was a huge help with getting orders ready to go for me. The even greater thing is I don't even ask her to help- she just knows I need help and asks what I need. A few years back she helped me on huge kit club order and I told her I would pay her. She was expecting maybe $20...but she helped me so much on it I gave her a $50 bill.
"I didn't even know fifty dollars existed" she said.
Today I am happy. Happy that we live in a beautiful country that grants us much opportunity. Happy that today, my family gets to relax and hang out together. Happy that last night I was able to squeeze in some time to pick up and clean (yes, I am happy when the house is clean). Happy that this morning when we went to check our garden we saw some growth. Happy that I am catching up on some crazy orders this week. Happy that I managed to throw something together to make it look like I was ready for the fourth. That made Reiley very happy too.
We are headed out to the lake tonight to watch fireworks with the rest of the city ;)
Lucky for us Justin's grandparents live just across the street from the lake so we are guaranteed parking and lots of food!
