I have a horridly busy week ahead of me I am afraid. I will be working more than I have worked for the last 9 months (which technically is only half as much as what normal people work and only 1/4 of what Justin worked this last week but is double what I work normally).
Do the math on that.
So, I really should not complain much. However, I have a difficultly managing my time as it is. It is broken into lots of little 1-3 hour time segments all week long so getting anything reasonably accomplished is rather difficult. Staying up super late is not as much fun as it was when I was little either (especially when the morning comes too soon).
So, this weekend I decided to take a break from the shop. I finished up all pending orders to be ready to ship on Monday morning and decided to make some creative time for myself. I am never really creative when I want to be though. I always feel the need to make something when I am less than able. Never ready when the moment strikes.
I hate that.
I worked into my creativity this weekend by getting the house cleaned up early this morning (can't be productive in total chaos), finishing up design team work for Monday and then trying to think of something to do. However, the night got late and instead I only worked on my banners for my blog and shop.
At least I got something done.
Tomorrow though I have a almost entire day ahead of me. So we shall see what happens.
Man- I had such a hard time finding that image. I created it last week as a blog header and it got buried and I forgot what I named it...I had wanted to do some *spring cleaning* in the shop earlier on this week and have not found the time. The only reason I found time today was my little one is home sick. So, I had to call her off school and me off of work.
Then we ran out to get some orange juice, soup, kleenex and medicine so she could lay down and rest.
And I had some time to get to update shop :)
She seems to be doing better now. I think it was an initial getting up grogginess combined with the cold that got her. But it was better she stayed home since they were going on a field trip which required being outside in the cold most the day. Instead she is home, cozy and resting.
There are lots of bright colors in the shop now to get ready for warm weather. Just what I need when it is so cold here. Yesterday I accidentally stepped out with flip flops and my toes were so cold!
My favorite new item in the shop are these:
They are so bright and colorful- and although I had St. Patrick's in mind when I was designing them I wanted to be able to use them anytime. So, there are a lot of everyday phrases that can be used in several different colors so they are more usable.
And I these are my other favorite ( so I lied about having one favorite) :
I am so excited about these because they are an original illustration by me! I have been wanting to use some of my own sketches for a while and hope I can add more of them to the shop. You might remember a while back I sent a little lunch note to my daughter to school with a little deer on it in this post.
Well, my daughter just loves the little sketches so she was quite excited to see I was adding them to my shop. She is my biggest fan- I just love her!
And some new large frames:
Which I made into a banner in our house. I just cannot get a good picture of a full banner though.
But these are so big, bright, crisp and colorful- they are great!
There is so many more things in the shop right now I just added...but I don't want to just use this blog for shop updates...
But one more thing ( i lied again!)-
Check out this blog post about my labels today. I received an email saying I was featured on the blog and went to check it out- really great style blog. I spent some time checking it out and now it is on my blog list. Like I need any more blogs on my list ;)
So, we have been working on our basement remodel for the other half. I have the half that is already finished and that is where my *studio* resides. I love all the space...but I so with I had good lighting! And I am so jealous of my husband who is starting from scratch and getting to pick out nice lighting... while I get this crummy typical gold ceiling light with ugly etched glass. BOO!
I am going to work on him though.
I thought I had a photo of the new lighting but just realized I don't...I will have to go take one.
We are working on a new counter height table for me though. I would much rather stand when working on projects so I don't keep having to get up so I knew I wanted one before we bought our house. However, I had not quite worked out what I wanted yet- and now I have collected about 75% of the materials for it so I am excited to get started on it.
I am also *enrolled* in this class right now and although I am excited to see the results...I am definitely apprehensive about reorganizing my photos. But I am gonna dive in and just trust the system. That is the only way to do this.
I love the two books on the system so I know it will work I just have to give it a chance.
I have delivered nearly every box of cookies Reiley sold- yay!
And so I have regained my living room and feel like I am in control again!
Try as I may I cannot get caught up on hardly anything lately. I have a living room full of Girl Scout cookies, literally thousands of tags from a large wholesale order I am almost done with and piles of to-do's with actual due dates...
After I graduated from college last year I was hopeful stress levels might lessen. It has yet to happen.
I am staying busy making sure I get all my orders with Valentine items out in time and managing to sucker in Justin to helping me with the work. He actually volunteered.
He is so great!
I have had a very busy last few weeks with orders and convo's with lots of etsyians (which I totally love!)
So, it seems I might be busy a bit while more.
I always seem to want to create things when I do not have time- so I have a list of things to do once I somewhat catchup on this week (and clear the living room of cookies).
Those cookies may be the death of me.
I think we ate an entire box on the way home from picking them up.
My little one made her first reconciliation last week (well a couple weeks ago). She seemed pretty cool about it. Not too nervous. She chose the longest line (the one for the reconciliation room). We were the second to the last to leave the church (and the only reason for that was the girl behind her got out of line to go to the bathroom). I encouraged her (several times) to switch lines to speed things up because there were several priests waiting for children. She was certain she wanted to wait though. Which was interesting because her favorite priest was only steps away with an empty line.
I found out afterward through talking that she did not want to see her favorite priest because she was afraid he would hate her after the confession.
Then later that night at mass on our way out she dodged the priest she did confess to at the door.
The confessions of an eight year old...
So, today I am impatiently waiting for two packages filled with supplies so I can get to work. I have (unfortunately) noticed at our new house that no mail carrying service comes early in the day. We get UPS late, FedEx late, and sometimes I don't even bother to check our mail because it comes after dark. I got so used to UPS at 9:00, FedEx at 10:00 and mail around 2. I guess I was spoiled. I actually live even closer to the UPS building now too.
Next house I want to check into what time they get their mail and packages.
On Saturday night we went out to dinner to celebrate my etsy shop getting 1000 hearts!
When I first started it up and had 100 hearts Justin told me when I got 1000 he would take me out... and I did not forget that.
So, we had been anticipating it for a couple of weeks and on Saturday it was so darn close that I said we must go out tonight because I will for sure get them tomorrow and I knew we would not go out during the Superbowl (although I personally would have).
So, my choice was a steakhouse where you throw peanuts on the floor. Reiley loves throwing the peanuts. Shortly after arriving we knew we were going to have to wait nearly forever (in kid time) but at least Reiley would be entertained with the peanuts.
And in hindsight I am not even sure about those peanuts with the recall.
But we all seem to be doing fine.
Well, I went up to put our name down and was told it was a 45 minute wait.
We decided to wait- and I gave Justin's name.
Justin immediately asked why I gave his name because for sure there are probably 5 other Justins on this list.
I would have given my name- but sometimes people mispronounce it or spell it wrong (not that it matters) and I thought for sure Justin was easier.
We went and sat down and ate about 5 peanuts each- then they called Justin party of 3.
Justin immediately stood up but I sat. I sat because we had a 45 minute wait. But Justin went up to the hostess and she started leading him back and Reiley and I fought our way through the crowd to follow him.
But I so did not believe we were the right Justin.
So, we ordered...started eating and about 35 minutes later (after we were seated) we hear...
"Justin party of 3"
wait a few minutes
"Justin party of 3"
few more minutes
"last call for Justin party of 3"
yeah...we were that Justin.
The other Justin must have left and we took their spot...oops.
