monday
So, here is the update on the shutters from last week first of all.
After forgetting to spray paint it on and off this week I finally got it finished yesterday- but have yet to hang it. I actually still need to figure out the perfect spot for it. I think it came out pretty good and am excited to put it to use after the shutter had been sitting in a project basket for probably a year.
Well, my original plan for Amusement Monday did not pan out so in honor of December 1st I am going to address advent calendars this Monday.
This year I purchased the same little cardboard candy advent calendars you get at any store but I really wanted something different. Something I could make using items I already had would be ideal. I did see a calendar I liked shaped into a wreath and used little circle shaped boxes at Target- but I would much rather make one if I can finally settle on an idea.
Amanda let me know about an advent calendar she had made for her three boys on her blog. Her calendar lets the boys color a page each day counting down for Christmas. There is a free pdf file available on her blog that you just need to print out and bind. She uses a bind-it-all but you could easily just use binder rings. We are using this along with the traditional candy ones you find in any store.
This is really cool from Garnet Hill. I am thinking of making something like this next year.
The one beside it is an article from Martha Stewart using the same concept but with baby socks.
Here they have used boxes (also Martha Stewart)
What about using small stockings that you can find in dollar stores?( Martha Stewart)
Or collect all your Christmas cards to make one for next year.
I think I am most fond of the little stockings or mittens (or a combination of the two).

Today I will be working on my first entry into my Christmas album which is kind of like an advent calendar of my own. If you are interested in starting something like this I suggest signing up for Shimelle's class. It is one of my favorite albums I have done and once you sign up for her class you are a permanent member and get access to the forums and emailed assignments for it each year.
Or if you are looking for more of a documentation of the Christmas season check out Ali Edwards December Daily album.
