Okay, so this photo is a lie. It was actually taken on Thursday I think. But I just love it when the snow sticks to the trees like that.
Today is all about wrapping up/finishing up Christmas things for me. I have been busy wrapping, crafting and need to start baking. All in all- it is fun...but I am so tired!
And partially that tiredness is all my fault. On Friday we borrowed the season one disc set of "Heroes" from my dad (who borrowed it from someone at work) and we got sucked into watching a total of two discs yesterday! Each show is probably 45 minutes long and there are several on each disc. It was not enough either- because Reiley could not watch it with us (which was okay with her because she watched "Mamma Mia" for the second time and danced/ sang along to the sing along bonus feature) so when she went to bed we sat up watching another episode.
I hate it when I get sucked into something like that...but can honestly admit I am waiting for tonight to start up disc 3. Then we were told we could borrow season 2 (when will it ever end!?)
Anyway- it is a really good show that I did not even know about and I am not much of a T.V. buff so it is not often I watch anything at all or know of these things.
So, in these last few days before Christmas I am running around picking up last minute gifts and thinking,"why did I not remember to get a present for so and so?!" I thought I was done.
And after a full month of buying (for me anyway) toward the end you really might not want to spend anymore money (for me anyway).
So, today I am giving you a gift!
And this will be the Amusement Monday for today- free gift!
I am really so excited about this!
I worked all last Friday on a calendar that I could give to my relatives and in case I was in need of any last minute gifts for people (and did not want to face the crowds!).
Just click here: (and maybe leave a comment so I know someone is out there)
Any comment will do (well any clean comment) be it a cookie recipe ( I still have to bake people!), let me know how you found my little blog, say hello to me, sing me a song- whatever. It all works.
And you are on your way to making a calendar for yourself or as a gift!
And the file includes the wrap and a small guide for the user to set up the calendar.
Print the pdf file up, use the guidelines to cut the calendar, slide it into a clear cd case and use the included packaging wrap and instruction guide.
Then I am going to throw it (gently) into a brown lunchbag and put a bow and tag on it.
Now you have a gift - or if you have done all your shopping already- now you have a free desktop calendar.
Just as a quick note- the file includes (in one print off)
(4) packaging wraps
(2) instructional guides
So- you might want to adjust the pages you need printed accordingly or you will end up with a massive amount of packaging wraps. ( I just did it to save paper)
AND- I just checked it before I loaded it up here and I had accidently added in an extra day in April and June (I could use an extra day!) and two days in August were not printing up (so it evens out) but I fixed it so hopefully there are no more mistakes. If you catch one let me know (or else everyone is getting an inaccurate calendar and the world at large may be thrown off a day or two!)
It has been a busy last few weeks for me. Hence the no blogging. I am not even sure I even had a plan for Monday's post this entire time.
I have been trying to keep up with my regular orders from the shop. Making sure each order arrives prior to Christmas. Working on a few custom orders. Working on some Christmas gifts. And the rest of life.
I have a poor little puppy who just came home from the vet with a shaved belly so that we will not have any more little Boston's running around. Because one is enough. I am expecting that she will feel more like herself tomorrow. Tonight she is just so sad. I am sad for her.
Friday I received a call from the school nurse...
(or the lady at the front desk- not sure which one...although Reiley referred to her as the headmaster (too much Harry Potter I think))
...telling me Reiley tripped in the classroom and fell face first toward the teacher's big wooden desk. After talking on the phone with Reiley for a few minutes I realized she wanted me to come and get her.
So, off I went and I returned home with one sad little girl with a large goose egg on her eyebrow...
(which has now turned into a black eye- resembling some poorly applied eyeshadow)
...and a frosty float. Because frosty floats make everything better.
And finally, the week started with Boston breaking out of her "area" while I was at the grocery store and me returning to find that out of every possible item in the room to chew on...she thought my camera lens was the best bet.
Which it is still in perfect shape besides the rubber gripping missing.
Luckily she is cute and I had an hunch that she might escape. I actually was going to hit up the hardware store on my way home to get new hooks for her gate since the other hooks were not too sturdy.
And in all honesty after accessing the room I suppose she chose an item from the person who would handle it the best.
So, it has been an off week and now...
I am looking forward to a week or two of having some time off.
My Christmas album is lacking.
I really want to try out some of the Pioneer Woman's new actions she has on her photography site (her first set is awesome... and totally free). I have downloaded them so far- the top photo has the 70's action set on it (very neat!).
Finishing up my woodland/storybook canvas (just for fun) I am making from my silhouette designs.
We got quite a little dusting yesterday. We woke up to a few inches of snow and then it continued to snow throughout the day. Traffic was a mess, everything took much longer than it needed to, and it was so cold!
This was Boston's first experience with snow. It is always so funny each year when dogs are introduced to snow. At first they are thinking, "no way" and then each time I brought her inside she looked like this. She gets her face all in the snow each time.
Well, yesterday was a pretty productive day. I got a lot of random little things done and all my errands taken care of (even with the yucky weather).
I went to Target to pick up some random things and checked out their dollar spot and was so excited to find little mittens. They are little toddler mittens just like in the advent calendar I liked! So, I picked up a few sets of those then ran over to the other end and picked up some Christmas socks. Then I also picked up some little red stockings to make up for what I did not have (it was pretty picked through already). So, I am not sure if I will put it up this year- but I have all the makings for my own little stocking and mitten advent calendar for a grand total of $12.
So, today I am hanging out inside all day. Catching up on my December album. Drinking hot cocoa. Listening to Christmas music or A.M. radio (I am a bit of a dork).
So, here is the update on the shutters from last week first of all.
After forgetting to spray paint it on and off this week I finally got it finished yesterday- but have yet to hang it. I actually still need to figure out the perfect spot for it. I think it came out pretty good and am excited to put it to use after the shutter had been sitting in a project basket for probably a year.
Well, my original plan for Amusement Monday did not pan out so in honor of December 1st I am going to address advent calendars this Monday.
This year I purchased the same little cardboard candy advent calendars you get at any store but I really wanted something different. Something I could make using items I already had would be ideal. I did see a calendar I liked shaped into a wreath and used little circle shaped boxes at Target- but I would much rather make one if I can finally settle on an idea.
Amanda let me know about an advent calendar she had made for her three boys on her blog. Her calendar lets the boys color a page each day counting down for Christmas. There is a free pdf file available on her blog that you just need to print out and bind. She uses a bind-it-all but you could easily just use binder rings. We are using this along with the traditional candy ones you find in any store.
This is really cool from Garnet Hill. I am thinking of making something like this next year.
The one beside it is an article from Martha Stewart using the same concept but with baby socks.
Today I will be working on my first entry into my Christmas album which is kind of like an advent calendar of my own. If you are interested in starting something like this I suggest signing up for Shimelle's class. It is one of my favorite albums I have done and once you sign up for her class you are a permanent member and get access to the forums and emailed assignments for it each year.
